New School for Bolton

In September 2014 Essa Primary will open its doors for the first time. As Bolton’s newest school it will offer education for pupils in the Deane, Daubhill and Great Lever area.

The school will have an initial intake of 90 children, with 60 in reception and 30 in years one and two. It is hoped that by 2020 the school will be full to its capacity of 420 pupils.

When the school bell rings for the first time in September, it will be in temporary accommodation. The staff and pupils will move to their permanent site in September 2015. Both buildings are based on the current Essa campus to enable the Essa foundation to provide ‘lifelong learning’ from one setting. The new staff team for Essa have been involved heavily in the design process for the refurbishment of both buildings.

Jo Wood, Principal Designate for the school said of the ambitions for the school ‘Our hopes for the future are that outstanding learning and teaching is experienced by every child and that a true love of learning is developed from a very early age. We very much look forward to seeing every child grow and develop to exceed their potential and that the Essa family can provide a wealth of experiences for our children, families and the wider community’.

Essa Primary hopes to make the learning journey for all of their students extra special. They will employ creative learning technologies as a key element of their curriculum including access to one-to-one mobile technology. Each student will have a personalized learning experience.

The team at Essa hopes to establish strong links with local businesses and residents. They will host a grand opening planned for the 12th September 2014. As well as an opportunity to celebrate the new school and its pupils, the site will also offer adult education for the whole community. The ceremony will start at 4.00pm and is open to everyone in the area.

As well as welcoming new students, Essa Primary will be welcoming a team of new staff in September. The team has all been selected to drive the ethos ‘Right from the start’ in everything they do.

Amanda Stothard, Senior Recruitment Consultant for New Directions Education, Manchester comments ‘It is always exciting when a new school opens. Having worked closely with Jo Wood, I am thrilled that she is leading this new venture. Her ambition for the school is unrivalled. We hope to become a key recruitment and training partner to Bolton’s newest school’.

Children will join Essa Primary from around 20 different settings across the region.
