Your First Step Towards a Rewarding Career in Education Recruitment

About New Directions Education Ltd

New Directions Education Ltd is a national teacher supply agency, operating from eight branches across the UK. The majority of our business is the provision of supply teachers to schools, although we are also placing an increasing number of teachers in permanent positions. The nature of our business means that our employees have to effectively manage two types of activity, and so it can be difficult to find people that fit. We are looking for Trainee Account Managers who will be self-driven and not fazed by making cold sales calls, which is a key element of our work. Another key attribute is the ability to establish and develop good professional relationships with teachers and other school staff, including head teachers. In line with our vision, mission and values we recognise that recruiting graduates is the way forward for our business. We provide excellent training and development opportunities to the right focussed individuals.

New Directions Education Ltd Graduate Programme (ND Graduate Programme)

The ND Graduate Programme enables graduates to join our team and train as Account Managers. A talented few will eventually become Branch or Regional Managers within the business. We offer a comprehensive training and development programme which will lead to a career that is challenging and demanding but also very rewarding.

Development Path

The principle behind The ND Graduate Programme is that individuals will learn about our business efficiently and effectively by doing a real job, with real responsibilities.

Our dedicated in-house learning and development team offer a wide schedule of job-related training that will help you to get the most out of your role. Our training programmes are designed and continually reviewed to ensure that employees are competent in undertaking all aspects of their job. Training will be provided on an on-going basis. The aim is to up skill, refresh learning and enhance effectiveness as well as develop employees for promotion opportunities.

There will also be an opportunity to take your training and career further with an industry-recognised qualification through the REC. The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) is the official governing body of the recruitment sector.

Locations

In addition to our head office in Cardiff, we have a wide branch network that spans England and Wales (and we are still growing!)

Progression

The ND Graduate Programme is aimed primarily at offering a first chance to a few talented people and if our judgement about you turns out to be correct, we will want to make the best use of your abilities, as we do with all our employees.

Our structured career ladder allows you to work your way up through our progression plan, increasing your salary and commission-earning potential as you go. If you or your manager feels that you are ready for promotion, your development will be reviewed and if you are achieving all the criteria for the next step on the ladder, you will be promoted.

Account Manager > Branch Manager > Regional Manager > Director

New Directions is committed to providing equal opportunities in employment. This means that all job applicants and employees will receive equal treatment regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race (including colour, ethnicity, and nationality), religion or belief, sexual orientation.

Decisions on recruitment and selection are based solely on the individual merits of each candidate, their suitability for the job they have applied for and assessment by the application of selection criteria appropriate to the job role.

The Selection Process

The selection process for The ND Graduate Programme includes a number of different stages, all designed to help us find out more about you, and also to help you decide if this programme is the right one for you.

Depending on the number of vacancies we are recruiting for, you may be asked to attend a selection day. This will involve a number of the stages of our recruitment processes being carried out on one day, or you may be invited to attend the stages separately.

Offer of Employment

If you are successful we will contact you and make you an offer of employment. We will confirm which branch you will eventually be working from and agree your start date. This will coincide with one of our induction courses, which usually take place at the beginning and end of every calendar month.

As places on The ND Graduate Programme are limited, not everyone can be offered a position. If you are not successful we will write to you as soon as possible to inform you of our decision.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many graduates are you recruiting?
As New Directions continue to expand, the number of staff we recruit each year will change. We will recruit as many staff as we can to fill the existing vacancies and plan ahead for our future needs.

Does it matter if I do not have a recruitment or education background?
We are interested in hearing from applicants with degrees in any subject for our graduate programme.
We are seeking talented, hardworking individuals to join our fast growing team. We are interested in hearing from graduates with a minimum 2:1 degree. All degree disciplines will be considered, we are especially looking for graduates with Business Management, Accounting/Finance, Economics and Psychology degrees.

What will I get paid?
New Directions’ graduates are offered a competitive salary and the opportunity to earn performance-related commission which is uncapped OTE £25k. On top of that you will enjoy life insurance, 22 days holidays (increasing to 25 days with service) plus bank holidays and a range of additional benefits such as: social events, childcare vouchers, refer a friend, cycle to work scheme, accredited recruitment practice qualification.

When will I start?
New Directions’ graduates who are successful traditionally commence employment in August; however we may also continue to recruit throughout the year when business needs dictate.

Will I be able to move around different locations?
When you are offered a place on The New Directions Graduate Programme you will be asked to join a specific branch after a three month induction programme at head office. For the duration of your initial training you will be expected to remain in the Cardiff office.

Long term it may be possible to move between branches in line with our business requirements. We may be able to offer mobility to those staff who wish to gain further experience by working in another branch or region. We operate in an environment where we encourage advancement through personal drive, ability and achievement. If you request to move, we will certainly look to accommodate you but will need to see evidence of your hard work, commitment and level of success to reward you with the move you are looking for.

Will New Directions pay for me to relocate?
We do not offer relocation allowances to our graduates when they initially join us. We will expect that when you specify locations you are looking to work in, that you are able to support yourself in moving to that area, should an offer of employment be made to you.

Once you have joined us, if you are required to move to a different branch or region, the company will support you by meeting reasonable travel and accommodation costs where it is appropriate.

Once I have secured a place, can I defer for a year?
We recruit in line with our current business need. Due to the ever changing nature of our business, it is extremely difficult for us to defer start dates.

Can New Directions help me with securing a work permit?
Unfortunately we are unable to accept applications for the graduate programme unless you can provide confirmation that you are legally entitled to work in the UK. If you are invited to take part in our selection process, we will ask to see proof of this in the form of a UK or EEA passport or similar supporting documentation.
