Leading Welsh recruitment and training firm New Directions has had two of its employees shortlisted for this year’s Leading Wales Awards.
Natalie Poole from Porth, Rhondda Cynon Taff and Victoria Deane from Cathays in Cardiff have both beaten stiff competition to make it through to this year’s short list.

Natalie is Branch Manager for the specialist educational needs team at New Directions Education. She has been nominated in the Team Leader category.
Victoria is Group Learning and Development Manager for the New Directions team. She has been nominated in the Leading Leadership Skills Development category.

The awards, now in their eighth year recognise those leaders across Wales whose leadership really makes a difference.

Natalie and Victoria made the shortlist in their individual categories after being nominated by colleagues. Jeff Tune, Chairman at New Directions comments:
“Simply being recognised by others is in itself a reflection of the hard work and commitment that is put in daily by the New Directions nominees. I feel honoured and extremely proud to work with staff as talented as Natalie and Vicki and wish them both the best of luck.”

Barbara Chidgey, spokesperson for the Leading Wales Awards, said “There is a lot of talk about the importance and impact of leadership in today’s society, our role however is to uncover and celebrate real life examples of leadership that have touched people’s lives. We’ve reached out to even more people across Wales this year and we’ve had a tremendous response in terms of both quantity and quality of nominations as illustrated by the largest number of finalists ever drawn up. Reading the many and inspirational nominations submitted has been an absolute privilege and extremely motivating.”

The winners will be announced at the celebratory lunch and ceremony which will take place at the Hilton, Cardiff on Thursday 31st May 2012.

Welsh recruitment and training provider New Directions Holdings Ltd has appointed Carl Ashford as a specialist training consultant. He joins the team after spending over ten years within the medical sector.

Carl comments "Businesses regardless how big or small are required to provide staff with the necessary training and equipment needed to provide their service. It is also a requirement to ensure customers remain safe throughout their experience with the business. It costs as little as £35 to put a member of staff through a first aid course, but it can cost in excess of £5m to pay a customer for an injury caused within the workplace".

Carl joins the team after a career of seven years with the RAF as a paramedic, and three years as a director of a private ambulance company. Steve Shepherd, Training Manager for the company adds "New Directions has been embedded within the business community for over 20 years; we felt it pertinent to reflect the needs of our ever evolving clientele. Carl brings specific knowledge so that we can now deliver specialist clinical courses".

According to the HSE* an estimated 603,000 workers had an accident in 2010/11 – 200,000 of these led to over 3 days absence from work and 150,000 to absence over seven days.

ND Training is pleased to confirm our experienced trainer Victoria Deane is now qualified to deliver the Level 2 Award in Paediatric Emergency First Aid and the Level 2 Award in Principles of Paediatric Emergency First Aid. The national standards for first aid in childcare settings state that ‘at least one person who has a current paediatric first-aid certificate must be on the premises at all times when children are present’. Additionally, at least one person with a current paediatric first-aid certificate must accompany every outing. Paediatric First Aid is primarily aimed at those working in child-care settings, but it will be useful for anyone with responsibility for caring for infants and children. We will be up-dating all our clients in the near future to let them know we are now able to deliver this valuable CIEH qualification and lifesaving skill, if you would like more information or would like to book click here
