Business & Operations Manager (Grounds Maintenance)

Outskirts of Cardiff


£35,000 – £40,000 per annum plus benefits

Development & Operational Management of the Grounds Maintenance Division.

Our client is looking to recruit a Business & Operations Manager to join the busy Grounds Maintenance Team at their base on the outskirts of Cardiff.


To manage & build the Grounds Maintenance business. Including circa 35 employees and numerous local & national tendered contracts.


  • Responsible for tendering, winning, and managing new and repeat grounds maintenance business for our client
  • Responsible for ongoing customer and account management to maintain and build our client’s reputation for GM in Wales & the Southwest
  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of the team, equipment & resources to deliver the contracts as required by clients.
  • Responsible for developing and overseeing the risk assessments & method statements for tendered works.

Main Duties:

  • Assist with key client management with a view to taking control of some.
  • Management of GM staff, including recruitment, development, appraisals and disciplinary procedures.
  • Managing SHEQ compliance with client standards and our subscriptions such as construction line.
  • Managing the workload and team schedules to meet contract requirements.
  • To liaise with customers and contract managers to monitor and report on the quality of work delivered in line with contract requirements.(In person and remotely)
  • Sourcing, pricing, and winning new work, contributing to large-scale tenders
  • To identify and refer work and contracts to the Tree and Consultancy teams.
  • Promoting the GM and wider business reputation and capabilities, including assisting with social media content.
  • Ensuring budgets are met and communicating any change or compensation controls efficiently.


  • Articulate and able to communicate effectively in the written and spoken word in English.
  • MS Office package skills -Word, PPT, & Excel
  • Being experienced at giving presentations would be an advantage.
  • Being able to speak, read & write in Welsh may be an advantage.

Education & Training


  • Full Clean Driving Licence
  • Good standard of Education especially in written English (Reports & tenders) and Maths (Quoting and planning budgets)


  • Additional vehicle licenses are a bonus.
  • Management or industry qualifications
  • A business-related qualification

Knowledge & Experience

  • Background knowledge of the GM or landscaping industry.
  • Supervisory/ management experience. (Knows how to plan and utilise resources)
