JOB TITLE: Head of Care – Children’s Services

REPORTS TO: Regional Manager (Children’s Services)

LOCATION: Cardiff

SALARY: £50,000.00 – £60,000.00

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

To be responsible for the overall management of a specialist children’s home, accountable for all resources and budgets, ensuring compliance with the regulatory framework to deliver positive outcomes of care and high levels of employee advocacy, and promoting a positive high performing culture to ensure your home is viewed as a great place to work.

Key Responsibilities

Provider of Choice (Education & Care)

Ensure the highest quality of service is provided to the service users in your care through promoting a culture that seamlessly aligns to the Positive Behavior Support (PBS) framework.

Deliver a home environment that puts the wellbeing and quality of life of the people we support at the heart of everything you do, through embracing a person-centered planning approach and championing other new approaches as appropriate.

Carry out monthly monitoring of your home as set out under the Quality Assurance Policy and ensure that action plans are in place and are actioned as appropriate.

Ensure an up-to-date Home Improvement Plan is in place and that actions are driven in line with this.

Proactively manage your home in relation to risk and regulation performance.

Carry out relevant investigations in relation to significant events as necessary.

Oversee complaint and safeguarding matters in conjunction with the Responsible Individual, ensuring reports are written and submitted to the relevant Director and appropriate agencies as necessary.

Ensure a weekly management report for your home is prepared for the Regional Manager in relation to all operational and regulatory matters.

Commercial Success

Manage your budget effectively, escalating any issues in a timely manner.

Work with the referrals team, ensuring all referrals are converted to admissions in conjunction with finding the appropriate care solution for each person we support.

Oversee and ensure robust rota management is in place to ensure the right resource is in the right place at the right time.

Monitor attendance levels and act as appropriate to minimize.

Work with the Recruitment team to proactively ensure all vacancies are filled in a timely manner, and suitably skilled staff are in place, minimizing agency use.

Organisational Excellence

Build a positive working relationship with Inspectors, ensuring good communication at all times.

Lead inspections in conjunction with the Responsible individual.

Ensure your home is run in compliance with all relevant regulations.

Create a culture in your home that drives quality and continuous improvement.

Ensure all company policies, procedures and practices are implemented and adhered to consistently in your home.

Ensure all maintenance issues are reported in line with company procedures, and monitor completion, escalating as necessary to your Regional Manager.

Ensure statutory requirements are met and your home is kept in good decorative order escalating any unresolved issues as appropriate.

Participate in the Company “on call” system.

Lead regular meetings with your Team Leaders and staff, ensuring your home has clear and visible leadership and direction.

Ensure all staff are compliant with mandatory training and attend all required training.

Ensure that your Regional Manager and other key internal stakeholders are made aware of any issue that could adversely impact on the organization, escalating accordingly.

Ensures the company meets all regulatory requirements (e.g. General Data Protection Regulations; Social Care Wales; CIW; Employment Legislation; Health & Safety, etc)

Skills & Experience

  • Strong, successful proven track record within a managerial role and working working in Children’s Service.
  • Solid knowledge of organisational compliance with legislation, regulatory requirements, and best practice.
  • An inspiring leader, who has experience of building and developing a high performing team.
  • The ability to work independently and on own initiative and make sound business decisions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • The ability to successfully challenge and influence within complex situations.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships both internally and externally.
  • Is comfortable with data and utilizes it effectively to evaluate performance and inform decision making.
  • A proven track record in managing complex projects from start to finish.
