Pupils at Ysgol Pen Barras school have made it through to the semi-final round of the annual Songs of Praise School Choir of the Year Competition 2011.

They have already benefited from a choral workshop with the renowned composer and conductor Douglas Coombes, who visited the school in January. The BBC filmed a choir rehearsal as well as interviews with various members of the choir, the musical director Elen Meirion, and headteacher Geraint Williams.
S4C will be filming the choir in school this Wednesday (March 2) for their programme Wedi 7.
The choir will sing the Welsh version of the hymn Think of a World without any Flowers in the semi-final round.

Currently in its ninth year, the competition pits the best school choirs in the land against one another as they attempt to win the coveted trophy Songs of Praise School Choir of the Year.

The event will be recorded on March 5 and 6 in the magnificent Oval Hall at Sheffield City Hall.
Twelve schools from across the UK are taking part, 6 in the junior competition and 6 in the senior.
The judging line up for the competition is: former pop singer and vocal coach to the stars David Grant, self styled peoples’ tenor Russell Watson and conductor, musician, choir master, teacher and performer Suzi Digby.

Aled Jones will present all three of the programmes, (2 semi-finals and a final), which will air on BBC 1 on March 27, April 3 and April 10.
