Pupils at a Rhymney Valley school were celebrated at an annual teaching awards scheme.

Children from Lewis School, Pengam, received accolades for the Film My School category during Sunday’s Pearson Teaching Awards ceremony hosted by TV funnyman Lenny Henry at London’s Palace Theatre.

Dr Christopher Howard, head teacher at Lewis School said:

I am delighted with the effort that the pupils put into the project.

They were shortlisted for their film which was based on life at the school and was first viewed at its open evening earlier this year.

Pupils Daniel, Liam, Jack, Joss and Rhys, all 15, were involved in editing the movie while 16-year-old Nathan was responsible for the soundtrack.

Dr Howard said:

They initially put a film together about the good things at our school for our open evening and people liked it so much, one of our English teachers nominated it for the teaching awards.

It’s great news for the school and is a tremendous lift. It’s excellent. A lot of very hard work has been well rewarded.

As put by our deputy head Chris Parry it has been ‘all worth while’.
