New Directions Sponsor University of East London Career Event

New Directions Education London –  sponsored the Cass Careers Conference on Friday 24th September at UEL

UEL held the ‘Kick-Start Your Career’ event as part of their induction week for new students on campus. The aim was to empower students, ensuring they make their first year as an undergraduate count. New Directions were invited to attend the event as a corporate partner, able to help signpost and advise students throughout their studies and at graduation.

The Cass Careers Conference was formally part of the School’s induction programme and was also open to all returning Cass students.

The Cass School of Education and Communities at the University of East London (UEL) is a major centre engaging in research and scholarship of local, national and international significance. Specialist areas include comparative education, early childhood, diversity and language, multilingualism, professional education, race and community, social work, teacher education and technology enhanced learning. The School houses two innovative and multi-disciplinary research centres – the Centre for Social Work Research and the International Centre for the Mixed Economy of Childcare.

The event consisted of a careers expert panel, including Bob Meier, Former Head Master and New Directions Business Development Officer and Associate Dean of the school Dr Linda Amrane-Cooper. Discussions included issues facing teachers in the classroom, anecdotal stories from the panel and qualities perceived as essential for teachers of the future.

The panel session was followed by a series of well attended workshops including ‘Promoting Yourself’ – a brief session on the advantages and disadvantages of social media for those entering the teaching profession, ran by Ruth Dalton, Group Communications Manager for New Directions.
