New Directions Liverpool Make Music

New Directions Education Liverpool have delivered a cheque to the music department at St Mary’s Catholic College, Wallasey. The school has a fantastic music department with excellent talent but are keen to attract even more students to become involved.

The money donated will go towards buying new instruments making it easier for some of the more disadvantaged children to pursue a career in music. Being able to add additional equipment to the department will really help drive the students to develop the career they desire. The college has a resident ‘Swing Band’ as well as string and brass ensembles and students regularly use the facilities to play and record all kinds of music, both classical and modern.

Speaking of the donation the department head Mr Sadler said: ‘We are delighted to receive such a generous donation, and it is really fantastic that the talents of our young musicians are being recognised. Music is a vital part of our college life, and quality instruments are an essential part of that, so we will be sure to put the money to very good use.’

The teachers of the department including Mr Sadler, have chosen to give up a free period each week to dedicate to students that want to learn more about music. This in itself shows the passion and dedication that the teachers of St Mary’s have. It is with thanks to Kim Adair who highlighted the music department is an area of the school that could utilise the donation to its full potential.

St Mary’s has seen talent develop such as Indie rock band Clever Criminals who are formed entirely of the college sixth formers, and who have just won the 2012 Liverpool Rocks Battle of the Bands. St Mary’s endeavour to encourage more success like this within the students.
