New Directions Signpost Newly Qualified Teachers in Liverpool

On Saturday 10th November 2012 over 200 hundred students gathered at Edge Hill University to participate in a conference for newly qualified teachers. The day saw lectures being delivered by inspirational leaders from the education industry, including the Principal from Sutton Academy, Dave Terry.

Emma Joyce who is a member of the New Directions team was privileged to listen to Dave Terry’s lecture, saying of the event

I found Dave’s words very inspirational and motivational, and was delighted to have the opportunity to meet Dave after the keynote speech. He spoke sincerely of the difference a Teacher can make and what teaching is really about – engaging with young people to really get the best out of them and being aware of how the students feel. He spoke of an experience close to him. His sense of humour, imagination and commitment to the children really shone through and I look forward to working with Sutton Academy closely in the future.

New Directions were introduced to the event by Jon-Leigh Pritchard who is part of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL). ATL who also took part in the day-long event delivering lectures across the day, also felt the day had been extremely successful.

New Directions were on hand to deliver careers advice to the students and talk about current job opportunities.

The team at New Directions were thrilled to be invited to such a successful event. Edge Hill and other partners such as ATL had put a considerable amount of time and effort in to the preparation of the event to ensure maximum benefit for everyone attending. The conference provided a range of workshops for the students to participate in which included workshops within Early Years, Primary and Secondary along with an exhibition area.

New Directions found by speaking to the students that a lot of them had already secured a placement which was very refreshing to hear, we were very encouraged to see so many positive outcomes already for the NQT’s.

A prize draw was also drawn for one lucky winner; the winner was Zara Prowse-Smith who received a £30 gift voucher.
