New Directions Education Manchester was invited by Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) to help support newly qualified teachers (NQT’s).

The University held sessions for secondary trainee teachers about how to prepare and make successful applications when looking to start their all-important induction year. The sessions covered the do’s and the don’ts when applying to schools and what schools usually look for when recruiting staff.

Stuart Ash, Business and Development Officer, and an ex head teacher of 18 years along with Amanda Stothard, Senior Education consultant, attended the event to help support and guide the students.

Stuart and Amanda spoke with the students drawing on their vast experience of working within the education sector advising and guiding the NQT’s with possible routes initially or later in their teaching career. All students were are also given a professional guide for Newly Qualified Teachers to help support them with tips and hints, with examples of how New Directions have successfully helped nurture, support and guide NQT’s into becoming strong professional candidates and helping them obtain their induction status.

Stuart Ash commented “It was a real pleasure to meet the MMU students from a wide variety of subjects and backgrounds and to hear about their initial experiences in schools and the start of the journey to employment. The trainees are obviously being well prepared to secure their first teaching post through the partnership between the university, schools and companies such as ourselves. We were pleased to be in a position to help and support the students at this event and in the coming months.”

Amanda Stothard added: “It was extremely exciting to be invited to such a wonderful event with so many enthusiastic individuals eager to start and develop their career as a teacher. I was thrilled to be of assistance and share experiences with many NQT’s of how New Directions have helped students into their induction status. I eagerly look forward to the next event.

New Directions wishes all the newly qualified teachers the best of luck in their careers.
