Team Teach Candidate Numbers Soar for New Directions Education

Posted on

Over the past six weeks school holiday, New Directions Education have been extremely busy ensuring their teachers and teaching assistants get the most up-to-date training available, to help and advance them in their current roles within schools. One of the training courses that New Directions provide is Team Teach training – a course aimed at those who work with children with challenging behaviour. The course involves de-escalation and diversion techniques, along with the most up-to-date restraint techniques to use when handling children in a crisis. The course is taught by two Team Teach tutors – Steve Shepherd (Training Manager) and Emma Thomas (SEN Account Manager) both New Directions employees.

Originally when Team Teach was first rolled out in October 2012, it was both Steve and Emma’s aim to deliver the course to over 100 candidates by Summer 2013 – now, we are pleased to announce that this number has been smashed, and Steve and Emma now sit on the 150 plus mark, meaning that over 150 candidates now have the full Team Teach basic qualification. Not only have Steve and Emma focused on delivering this training to Cardiff and surrounding candidates from Head Office, they have delivered the course nation wide, to include our Swansea, Manchester and Liverpool offices too. When talking to Emma about the Team Teach success, she said “it has been great to deliver this training not only in Cardiff and Swansea but outside of Wales too. Team Teach’s reputation as the restraint course of choice by our schools is rapidly increasing, and I am thrilled to be a part of up-skilling and safe guarding our much valued candidates”.

Over 40% of the schools we service now request that our candidates have Team Teach training, and so it is imperative that we are able to deliver this to our candidates to give them the possible chance to get into a school, and find them work as soon as possible – as well as servicing our schools and giving them exactly the type or calibre of candidate they require.
