Congratulations to Llangennech Junior School who are through to the Semi finals of the Songs of Praise – School Choir of the Year Competition 2014. The competition which is celebrating 12 years on the BBC sees 12 schools six  junior and six senior school choirs go head to head after making it through the preliminary rounds

Mr Anderson, Head Teacher of Llangennech Junior school commented “I am extremely glad to announce that the Llangennech Junior School Choir has been successful in reaching the 2014 Songs of Praise semi-finals. I’m sure you’ll agree that this is a great honour for the school and the village of Llangennech. I am very proud of the achievements of Mr Lewis Richards and the pupils! The choir will be filming at the ICC in Birmingham on March 15th prior to the program being televised during the Spring”

Llangennech Junior School will feature in the first programme which will be recorded at The International Convention Centre in Birmingham. Six junior school choir semi-finalists will sing a hymn of their choice, the best three as chosen by the judges go forward to the final. The schools taking part include:

  • Queen’s Lower School from Chester,
  • St Martin’s Ampleforth from Yorkshire,
  • Llangennech Junior School from Carmarthenshire,
  • Lindley Junior School from Huddersfield,
  • Ysgol Iolo Morganwg from Cowbridge in The Vale of Glamorgan
  • Blackheath Preparatory School from London.

In the final, the best three junior and best three senior choirs come together to each sing an inspirational song to the audience and judges. The judges will then select a choir from each category as the winner who will be crowned as BBC Songs of Praise School Choir Of The Year 2014.

The judging line up includes the classically trained musician, singer and television presenter Myleene Klass and the internationally renowned choral guru Suzi Digby. The three programmes will broadcast on consecutive Sundays this Spring on BBC One.
