New Direction Education Primary Football Tournament – Oldham

New Directions Education was delighted to be able to support Oldham Athletic Football Club’s Community Trust scheme recently by helping with sponsorship.  The Football League Division one club  organise a year round programme of activities for schools across the borough, the club recently hosted the Oldham Athletic Kids Cup a  6-a-side tournament for primary schools.

More than 30 teams from across Oldham participated in the  Oldham Athletic Kids  Cup, the games were played over two evenings and were a showcase of footballing skills from the children who produced an exciting array of football. The teams battled it out fiercely to progress to the next stage, eight teams progressed to the finals evening.

The finals evening saw  another round of exciting matches, the eventual winners  were St Joseph’s RC Primary in Shaw who saw off Hodgeclough  in the final.  St Joseph’s RC primary now go on to represent the borough and football league club in the northern finals of the national competition which will be held later this month at Crewe Alexandra’s  training ground.

The winners of the northern finals have the opportunity to win an all expenses paid trip to Wembley!

Wendy Noble, Trust Administrator at  Oldham Athletics commented on the the support of New Directions Education “I am delighted to work alongside New Directions Education. Both organisations have close working relationships with primary and secondary schools in the Oldham area, so the decision to work together seemed natural and logical. This is part of the long partnership between ourselves at the Trust and New Directions.”

Amanda Stothard, Senior Account Manager at New Directions Education in Manchester added, “As a company we have close links with a number of different institutions in our local communities, we are always looking to build on these relationships to benefit the  communities and schools we work with,  we are especially keen to support grassroots work that involves our schools and communities . Our head office in Cardiff has had a long tradition of hosting competitions with Cardiff City F.C. I would like to wish St Josephs RC Primary good luck for the later stages in the competition and say well done to all the schools, teachers and pupils who took part.”

The winning St Joseph’s  team are pictured with their certificates which they received from Stuart Ash, New Directions Business Development Officer.

The school has a great tradition of sporting involvement and success.  Their trophy cabinet is full of souvenirs of their real team approach which has resulted in success in a wide variety of sports from swimming to lacrosse, and the corridor walls are adorned with pictures from the many sporting activities that over the years the school has participated in with great success , particularly in team sports such as  football and netball.  Well done St Joseph’s.
