New Directions Education and Cardiff City Girls Tournament 2014

Leading Welsh recruitment and training agency – New Directions Education Ltd held their annual under 13’s girls football tournament in conjunction with Cardiff City Community and Education Foundation on the 13 March 2014.

With Cardiff City Football Club currently in the Premier League, the tournament was part of the Premier League Schools tournament. Over 20 teams from across South Wales and the West took part in the one day tournament which took place at Cardiff City’s prestigious ‘House of Sport’ an indoor venue with a 3G surface and state-of-the-art-facilities.

Over 160 girls took part in the tournament which saw some impressive football on display. Over the course of the day the 20 teams were whittled down to the two finalists, Whitchurch High school and Whitecross High school, the final was a thrilling display of football from both sides, however there could only be one winner and Whitecross High took the title. The score line was 4-0 to Whitecross High.

Jade Watkins, Teacher from Whitecross High commented “I still can’t quite believe the opportunity my students are going to get, playing at a top level stadium is every sports persons dream. It is a fantastic one in a life time opportunity. The New Directions tournament was fantastic, the girls were buzzing after their win and can’t wait to play in the national finals at the Etihad stadium”

Group Director of Business Development and Sales from New Directions Education Joined Cardiff City players Kenwyne Jones and Kevin Theophile-Catherine to present Whitchurch High with their medals and Whitecross with their winner’s trophy and medals.

Gary congratulated both teams on their achievements saying “Sport in school is always a hot topic, especially girls’ sports. It is heartening to see so many girls taking part in the tournament. The football on display has been of a very high level and all teams that participated should be proud of the way they played. To get to the final is a fantastic achievement. Good luck to Whitecross who will now be representing Cardiff City at the national finals.

It’s great to see the children with whom we engage on a weekly basis translating what they have learnt during training sessions into spirited game play.”
