St Peter’s Charity Bike Ride is a Huge Success!

Posted on

On Monday 10th March 2014 St Peter’s Primary School in Rossett embarked on a massive 5000 mile bicycle ride from the school to Malawi, the bicycle ride was held in order to raise money for a memorial to Emma-Jane Hopper who tragically passed away in November 2013 quite suddenly from a rare brain condition leaving behind a young family.

With the help of local companies who donated a number of cycle machines for the event every mile has been ridden within the school itself. Pupils at the school have been extremely enthusiastic about the event coming in before school, during lunch and even after school to participate in the cycling and rack up extra miles. The event has helped the children to deal with the loss of Emma-Jane by doing something positive in raising money for charity. After the memorial has been paid for any extra funds will go towards the Muluma School in Malawi, where St Peter’s had previously donated school uniforms.

Mrs Pritchard, the Head teacher at the school, has been overwhelmed and humbled by the support. She said the children and staff alike have been keen to get involved, even ex-pupils who have moved on to High School have come back to the school to help out on the bikes after school. The result has been that they have managed to raise a fantastic amount towards the cause.

By the time New Directions Account Managers Dan and Shelley from our Wrexham office attended the school on Friday 14th of March to pitch in with a few miles, the participants had already made fantastic progress having hit the 3000 mile mark, meaning they had crossed Turkey and were well into Jordan! The atmosphere in the school was fantastic and it was so lovely so see the children being motivated by engaging in physical activity.Shelley Nicholls
