High Achiever Awards 2014

North Wales Crusaders centre Christiaan Roets has been visiting local secondary schools throughout North East Wales as part of the High Achiever Awards 2014.

The High Achiever Awards which are sponsored by New Directions Education are designed to promote and award the young people of Wrexham, Flintshire and Denbighshire for their hard work, tenacity and compassion.

Christiaan originally from South Africa came to the UK at just 18 years of age, after undertaking various positions Chritiaan worked his way to the top by becoming the the general manager of a four star hotel in South Wales.

However Christiaan had always dreamed of playing rugby and had ambitions of playing for his new home country of Wales, through a lot of effort, dedication and sacrifice Christiaan earned a place in the Wales Rugby League team. Christiaan was selected to compete in the 2013 rugby league World Cup, two games of which were held here in Wrexham.

Despite being kept busy with his rugby league team, Christiaan manages to find time to study for a computer networks and security degree at Glyndwr University in Wrexham.

Jenna Whittam, Branch Manager at New Directions Education in Wrexham is proud to be supporting the High Achievers 2014 commented “Hearing  Christiaan’s story is inspiring and goes to show that you can achieve anything by working hard. We already know that there are pupils who go above and beyond, working within their schools and local communities we hope to recognise their efforts and also help inspire the next generation of high achievers.”

As well as the inspiring talk the North Wales Community Coach Adam Daniels also visited the schools to give them a taste of rugby league.

Judging for the High Achievers took place on Thursday at Tesco Wrexham and all nominees have now been notified. The awards culminates in a special awards ceremony to be held at Glyndwr University William Aston Hall on 17th July 2014. Where all finalists will receive a certificate and the category winner a prize donated by Eagles Meadow Wrexham along with the overall High Achiever and new this year the ‘Leader Readers vote.
