New Directions Education are delighted to have been able to support the ‘Everton in the Community’ initiative with sponsorship of a primary school basketball competition. The premier league clubs’ community team work to ensure local school children have access to as many different sports as possible in addition to football.

The primary school tournament which involved seven teams was played at the excellent Archbishop Beck Sports facilities in Liverpool. Participants enjoyed an excellent afternoon of basketball which was played at a surprisingly high standard, with some games being settled by just a few points. In a city renowned for children having a ball at their feet, the New Directions team thought it was great to see the enthusiasm they all had for basketball.

A hotly contested tournament was eventually won by Rice Lane Primary School who were unbeaten throughout the whole competition.

Mr Cooney from Rice Lane Juniors said ‘the youngsters really enjoyed the afternoon with the great facilities, great competition and some really close matches. The team was delighted to come out as winners’.

Stuart Ash, Business Development Officer for New Directions Education commented ‘the afternoon was a great success. There was a tremendous competitive spirit from the teams with some great games. All the children involved should be congratulated on the spirit in which the games were played, and for their age and experience the high skills level on show’.

Sean Peloe, Senior Recruitment Consultant for New Directions Education also added ‘it has been great to be involved with ‘Everton in the Community’ in delivering such a great and worthwhile tournament. Outside of work I referee a number of football matches involving ‘Everton in the community’ and knowing how much New Directions Education values giving back to the local community it has been great to work together on this project’
