On 1st March 2016, New Directions Education were invited by the University of South Wales to speak at the First Appointment Lecture at Caerleon Campus. The lecture was organised to provide support and guidance to students who will be applying for teaching jobs in the primary sector later this year.

There were a variety of guest speakers providing invaluable tips and insight into applying for their first teaching job, protecting their image on social media, working as a supply teacher and child safeguarding issues.

Kate Cox, Career Advisor at the University of South Wales commented, “The presentations provided a real insight into the personal and professional journeys that are in front of our students and would have provided a useful insight in supporting our students with securing their first teaching post, its rewards and challenges along with those all-important tips and guidance to help them with standing out from the crowd.  The feedback from students was very positive and most had useful comments to make about the event that we will utilise to support similar activities in the future.”

Anna Powell, Primary Branch Manager at New Directions commented on how impressed she was with the organisation of the event. “The University were keen to invite a variety of guest speakers to ensure their students were being exposed to a broad spectrum of topics before embarking on their teaching career. There was an excellent turnout and the students were very receptive, furthermore, they were asking pertinent questions on what to expect after they graduate.”
