The Tafwyl festival organised by Menter Iaith Caerdydd, has been Cardiff’s Welsh language festival since 2006 had over 35,000 people attend in 2015. The event supports the 36,735 Welsh language speakers in the capital and encourages continuity and growth of the language.

Speaking about their participation, Sian Hill, Account Manager for New Directions said “New Directions are incredibly grateful to Tafwyl for the opportunity to support this wonderful occasion. We, as a company, are dedicated to supporting the growth and development of the Welsh Language; something that Menter Caerdydd work tirelessly to achieve. It was also a pleasure to watch the pupils of the schools, which we work so closely with, give such fantastic performances. To know that the Welsh language continues to thrive in our capital gives us all a great sense of pride”

Llinos Williams, Tafwyl’s organiser said of New Directions sponsorship (Translated) “Thanks to ND Addysg and their generous support; Tafwyl was able to give a stage and platform to almost 5,000 children to perform to their families through the medium of Welsh. 20 local schools took part, all due to ND Addysg’s sponsorship. Heartfelt thanks for the company’s support, and we’re looking forward to working together again.”

The New Directions team introduced Mostyn y Mwnci to guests visiting the festival. Mostyn is the Welsh language team’s mascot, and visitors were invited to colour in masks created for the festival of the loveable creature.

In the run up to the event the New Directions team visited schools across the Cardiff region to drop off Mostyn for a photo shoot. Schools were challenged to come up with creative shots of the stuffed toy. Ysgol Nant Careau were named as eventual winners (pictured) with a picture demonstrating brilliant links between the school, a stuffed toy and law enforcement.
Ysgol Bro Eirwg took a very creative approach to the competition and pupils drew pictures of Mostyn. The New Directions staff are pictured here showing us their favourites.
