Kathryn Pearson – Wrexham Secondary Account Manger met with The Maelor School Penley today as pupils opened their GCSE results to one of the school’s most successful years to date.

Headteacher for the School Simon Ellis and the Head of Science Mrs Preston spoke to Kathryn about the results…

A very proud Head Mr Ellis said “We knew the pupils were good but I have to say they’ve smashed all previous school records and their performance will be one of the best in Wales. To achieve over 80% is a landmark for the school and shows the tremendous dedication of the parents and the teaching Staff”

In addition to the overall figure every pupil achieved at least a C grade in Science and all pupils who receive free school meals got 5 A-C grade including English and Maths.

Mrs Preston, Head of Science added “I am so proud of the pupils, for every one of them to get at least a C is superb. They attended extra revision classes and after school seminars, for it all to pay off is fantastic”.

Kathryn Pearson said of the school GCSE achievements “I work with the school on a daily basis and have a great relationship with the staff. It’s a pleasure to see them do so well, it is thoroughly deserved. 81% of pupils achieved A* to C Grades including Math and English recording one of the highest performances in Wales”.
