A blog from Howard – on yer bike…

A few months ago my colleague Chris Parsons and I signed up to take part in a rather lengthy bike ride for charity. Travelling over 200 Welsh miles with climbs summing a total of over 10,000 feet seemed like a challenge that as (relatively) fit chaps we would be happy to conquer.

So here we are on the road in a bid to raise funds for The Cardiff City Community Trust. I think there is no harm in admitting…sharing with you all – we are nervous. Chris is yet to locate a water-proof jacket (he discovered his last one wasn’t when his iPhone ceased trading during a training session in the battering rains of a week ago) and I am wondering if a weekend of over indulgence might have adverse ramifications on my efforts.

However, one thing that hasn’t wavered or come into question is our commitment to this charity and helping to raise cash. We want to support the harder to reach communities throughout Wales supporting numeracy and literacy projects to give the young people in those areas as big a chance as possible to shine. This ride heralds our own spirit of respect for all that the Cardiff City Community Foundation do to raise standards, aspirations and opportunity for young people in Wales.

Throughout our journey we are going to be being welcomed by a number of our schools throughout Wales to cheer us on our way, and I think we are going to need it.

Our journey…from Harlech to Llanelli

In Harlech we will be set on our way with the cheers and well wishes of Ysgol Tan Y Castell, from there we head to Aberystwyth. The team at Ysgol Penweddig will be on hand to support our second leg of the journey down to Llanelli. As we start our long journey back to Cardiff we will be launched on our last stretch by Steboneath Primary. We couldn’t be happier to be receiving such brilliant support from our communities.

Watch this space for some ludicrous pictures and words about our efforts from our PR team who are supporting (read hysterical) our efforts. Bradley Wiggins beware – the #menofharlech are about to start their tour and it ain’t going to be pretty.
