Burge’s Blog – Day Two… #MenofHarlech

So we made it…to Aberystwyth. As we cycled into the town in the glorious sunshine we couldn’t have been more relieved to rest our weary legs and take in a very very cold drink.

The journey from Harlech afforded us some amazing views, and after being sent on our way so very enthusiastically by Ysgol Tan Y Castell – we had hope in our hearts and the best wishes of the school behind us.

The roads were exceptionally kind to us, as was the weather. We stuck together as a team and urged one another on as the hills rose high. The camaraderie and all round banter has been outstanding. Cycling with such a brilliant diverse group of people from teachers to sports people has been inspiring. It’s just wonderful to think that so many people are committed to taking time out of their busy schedule to raise funds for such a brilliant cause.

Of course I am a huge Cardiff City fan, and being able to support the Community Foundation project has been a privilege. New Directions Education has worked in partnership with the club for well over 15 years in one capacity or another. From sponsoring their annual schools football tournament to projects like #MenofHarlech today, we remain committed to supporting a diversifying and all reaching education of tomorrow.

So today we will leave from Ysgol Penweddig in Aberystwyth and hope that the pupils there will give us as big a rousing cheer as yesterday in Harlech. We have around 70 miles to cover down to Llanelli where our final leg to Cardiff will start from Steboneath Primary School.

Mentally we all have some momentum behind us now. We have proven our capacity to work as a team and come together to support the moments of dipped spirits. So once more, if you see us give us a cheer, we still really appreciate it…and so will the eventual recipients of the funds we raise for the project.
