Ten year old, Niamh from Darrenlas Primary School based in Mountain Ash in Rhondda Cynon Taf has won first prize in a national Christmas card design competition, run by New Directions Education.

The competition which is now in its 16th year is open to the whole education sector across the UK and received over 1000 entries, so this is a fantastic achievement for Ten year old Niamh who was delighted to have his design printed on New Directions’ Christmas cards and win £500 for her school.

Chloe Devereux, Primary Account Manager for New Directions presented Niamh with her winning card and cheque, “It was such an honour presenting Niamh with her winning card, she was overwhelmed and it was a complete surprise to her as the school had kept it a surprise.”

Mrs. Gemma Powell, Headteacher of Darrenlas Primary School commented, “We’ll be using the money towards funding out class trips and educational visits. The cost of travel often means that trips are too expensive to ask for parent contributions. The school is thrilled for Niamh.”

The Christmas card was professionally printed and has been delivered to over 1,000 schools and businesses across England and Wales.
