St Peters clinch the title in the Cardiff City Foundation Cup

St Peters RC Primary School from Roath have triumphed as the New Directions sponsored Cardiff City FC Foundation Kids Cup winners for 2017.

 

The final saw the Cardiff side clinch the win over Swansea side Pontybrenin in a close South Wales derby final.

 

Dean Pymble, the Sport Engagement Manager for Cardiff City FC commented on the success of the tournament.

“The Cardiff City FC Foundation and Kinder +Sport EFL Kids Cup in partnership with New Directions Education has been a massive success this season with a record number of teams participating. 160 teams in total took part across 6 qualifying days with 24 of these obtaining a place in the finals day. The tournament achieves the Foundations key themes of supporting improvements in Sport and Health, inspiring people to be more active, more included and healthier.”

 

Gary Williams, Group Director of Business Development at New Directions says,

“As a company New Directions are proud to work with Cardiff City to support this tournament. This was the nineteenth year of the “New Directions Cup” and this year like the others the standard of football has been excellent, also the spirit it was played in was exemplary.

You never know, some of these players could go on to bigger things as some of these previous participants have been Darcy Blake, David Cotterill, Chris Gunter and Gareth Bale have all taken part, even Sam Warbuton.”

 

St Peters will now go on to play at Brentford FC in London at the next stages of the competition, playing against other championship teams representing South Wales.
