The Go Girl Academy

New Directions are proud supporters of the Go Girl Academy which was founded by Cardiff based entrepreneur, Wenda James-Rowe. The Go Girl Academy runs workshops for girls aged 10-18 years to promote self-confidence, positive body image, health and well-being.

During the Easter holidays a three day workshop was held at the Vale Hotel. During day 1 of the academy the girls had been delivered a session on mindfulness and a dance session which all the girls seemed to enjoy.

Carolyn Pearse, Communications and Marketing Officer for New Directions joined the girls on day 2 of the workshop to see how they were getting on. The second day started with a fabulous singing class, run by school teacher, Cerys Bevan who brought along her very own band! We learnt about the importance of team work in a team building activity and then after lunch the girls were treated to three inspiring and motivational talks by Fashion Designer, Georgia Pearce, entrepreneur Michelle Wilmott and The Go Girl Academy ambassador, Polly James from Capital FM.

Carolyn commented, “It was great to see all the girls getting involved and being pushed out of their comfort zone. The academy is such a great idea, it’s vitally important that we teach girls from a young age that everyone is unique and to promote positive body image and well-being and for them to love themselves for who they are. I wish The Go Girl Academy was around when I was in school!”

The final day of the workshop the girls were joined by Luna Amani, luxury bag and accessory designer. The girls got to design their very own bags for Autumn/Winter 2017 which Luna will put forward to the buyers for Primark… Watch this space!

Bella, one of the Go Girls talks about her experience over the last three days, “I’ve loved the Go Girl Academy because it’s been really fun, I’ve met new people and done things I’ve never done before. I’d recommend The Go Girl Academy to others because it’s really fun and you learn new things everyday. I feel relaxed, happy and excited!”

The next Go Girl Academy workshops will take place during the summer holidays.
