Leading education recruitment and training provider New Directions have donated five ASUS Transformer Book Laptop / Tablets to an alternative learning project in Rhondda Cynon Taff.

Howard Burge, National Director and Jon Evans, Alternative Learning Needs Branch Manager from New Directions were joined by ex Welsh Rugby International Morgan Stoddart to present the tablets.

The tablets will enable all leaners to access education remotely using cutting edge technology to enhance their all-round learning experience. New Directions have been working in partnership with Rhondda Cynon Taff Alternative Learning / EOTAS Programme providing staff right across the service for a number of years. The hub based in Wattstown, Porth specialises in delivering the best Education for children and young people who are not currently in a mainstream learning environment.

Morgan and the New Directions team presented the tablets and certificates to some of the learners to celebrate their achievements, both pupils and their parents were overwhelmed to have a visit from the Porth-based star.

Speaking about the donation a spokesperson for the project said “Thanks to Jon, Howard and Morgan today. I thought it went really well. You guys interacted with the pupils brilliantly and the parents were genuinely thrilled after you had left – very excited. People sometimes forget how hard the parents, as well as the children have had it over usually a number of years before they get to us and start experiencing success. So presentations like today, where they can see their kids making progress and enjoying their formative years is really important for them as well as the young people”.

Jon Evans said of the occasion “Having worked in partnership with Darren and his amazing Team in Rhondda Cynon Taff Alternative Learning / EOTAS, I have had the pleasure of witnessing the impact that passionate and specialised educators can make to the lives of children and young people. Every person who works within EOTAS really wants to make a difference and that is something truly inspirational”.

The hub can accommodate up to 10 learners at any one time, it is currently at full capacity.
