New Directions are looking for Cover Supervisors for opportunities in roles throughout Shropshire. As a leading supplier of staff to schools throughout the borough, New Directions deal with a range of assignments. Whether you’re looking for part or full-time employment of a short or long-term nature, New Directions will look for work to fit around your individual requirements.
The ideal candidate for this role will have experience of working or volunteering in a supervisory role, preferably supervising young people. Sports coaches, youth group coordinators/volunteers and individuals involved in delivering training will have many of the skills needed to be successful in this role, although New Directions will also have training available to further enhance this.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone interested in a career within secondary education, or even for someone already in education looking for a change.
Working as a Cover Supervisor can be a very rewarding but very demanding role. Schools may wish to employ staff for cover supervision but on occasions where they are not needed for cover, they might also be released to provide additional support to Teachers in classrooms, or to carry out administrative tasks.
Ideally, candidates will be required to:
Develop curricular knowledge in line with the school requirements
Apply the school’s behaviour management policy and report any difficulties to the class Teacher/senior leadership team
Set homework in line with the classroom Teacher requirements
Provide homework under the guidance of the class Teacher
Administer class tests if requested
Supervise the work of the Teaching Assistant, providing support if required
Abide by and work towards all policies within the school, eg – behaviour management, health and safety, equal opportunities
Carry out pre-prepared exercises in the short term absence of the class Teacher
Ensure students remain on task through classroom management
You will not be required to plan lessons, but will have the opportunity to lead the class
Assisting students where required and ensuring lessons are delivered
Collect completed work and pass to the class teacher.
