New Directions are currently looking to hire a hard-working and flexible Caretaker to work in a variety of schools in the South Wales area. Ideally, applicants will have access to their own transport and tools, and must be happy and able to work split-shifts (typically 6am-9am and 3pm to 6pm). If the applicant has experience as a school caretaker, it would be highly desirable but not essential.
If you are without this experience, please do not hesitate to apply. We are looking for candidates who have a strong maintenance and site management background with other transferable skills.
The core responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Opening up the building in the morning and locking up at the end of the day
- Guarding against vandalism and break ins
- Ground maintenance and gardening
- Basic cleaning duties
- Being on-call
All candidates must have an in-date, ‘Child Only’ DBS to be able to work in Schools. If you already have one on the Update Service, then we are able to use this – if you do not hold this kind of DBS then you must be prepared to apply for one at the cost of £45. Candidates must also complete a Child Safeguarding course before being offered work.
Caretakers will be responsible for looking after the school site including the buildings and grounds.
The duties of a school caretaker include: general maintenance and minor repairs, liaising with contractors, managing heating and alarm systems, security opening and closing the school, basic cleaning, and key holding.
Caretakers must be honest, reliable and trustworthy. They must be able to work well on their own using their own initiative, as well as working well within a larger team.
Candidates will ideally have previous caretaking experience; however New Directions will consider candidates who have a background in maintenance, decorating, facilities or security. It is mandatory that caretakers have a clear DBS either registered with the Update Service or a New Directions DBS.
