Job Specification

Caretakers are responsible for looking after a school site including the buildings and grounds.

The duties of a school Caretaker include:

  • General maintenance and minor repairs
  • Liaising with contractors
  • Managing heating and alarm systems
  • Security
  • Opening and closing the school
  • Basic cleaning
  • Key holding

Caretakers must be honest, reliable and trustworthy. They must be able to work well on their own using their own initiative, as well as working within a larger team.

Candidates will ideally have previous caretaking experience; however New Directions will consider candidates who have a background in maintenance, decorating, facilities or security.

It’s mandatory that caretakers have a clear DBS either registered with the Update Service or a New Directions DBS.

New Directions are seeking enthusiastic caretakers who are able to work on relief basis in the Wrexham area.

You will be responsible for;

Ensuring the buildings are opened at the beginning of the day and made secure at night

Completing cleaning duties as required

Monitoring intruder and fire alarms then reporting any malfunctions to appropriate person, attending the building as necessary outside of normal working hours in cases of alarm activation

Maintaining boiler and plant rooms as appropriate, reporting any defects immediately.

Undertaking any minor maintenance work and repairs as and when required.

Removing waste from the building and the grounds, including recycling.

Ensuring adequate stock of toiletries and distributing as required.
