Job Description

New Directions are looking to appoint a dynamic Teacher of Design Technology for a Pupil Referral Unit in Swansea where staff are not simply teachers – they are passionate advocates for their subject and an invaluable link between education and industry. This is a temporary, full-time appointment starting as soon as possible till the end of the academic year.

Working at this school will be an exciting and challenging chapter in the career of any teacher. Along with the responsibilities associated with the position, the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the culture, ethos and working practices of the Pupil Referral Unit at every level. The school provides vulnerable learners of all ages the opportunity to learn in a modern and aspiring environment, specifically designed to meet their individual learning and support needs. You will need to be committed to achieving excellence and ensuring every child succeeds. You will be a positively minded person who is passionate about your subject and tenacious in your drive to secure the best possible outcomes for pupils.

You should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the interventions that may benefit pupils with Social Emotional and Mental Health needs and a willingness to develop your knowledge regarding improved educational engagement further.

Job Specification

The Design and Technology Department is a thriving, innovative and very well-resourced Department which offers Design & Technology, Product Design and Graphic Communication.

The successful candidate will:

  • Ideally be a Product Design or Resistant Materials specialist
  • Be an excellent classroom practitioner
  • Be confident teaching across the spectrum of Design & Technology including Textiles and Electronics
  • Be committed to the development of an engaging curriculum
  • Have the ability and creativity to inspire and support staff and pupils

To apply for this role, you will:

  • Be a Teacher of Design Technology with excellent knowledge of the curriculum in Electronics, Food technology, Graphics, Resistant materials Systems, Textiles
  • Have QTS status or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Previous experience of working with children with Additional Learning Needs is desirable
