New Directions are currently recruiting an Education Support Worker to work for a prestigious education and care setting in Wrexham who dedicate themselves to delivering positive change for children across their specialist schools, colleges, children’s homes. They aspire to provide the highest standards of education and car to children with a range od needs such as autism, learning difficulties, social, emotional, mental health and SEMH difficulties.

As a support worker, you will be working one on one with young people who have learning disabilities or complex needs and you will be responsible for supporting their educational needs, fullfilling their potential for independence, choice, inclusion and control, supporting them throughout the day with daily tasks and needs. The role of a support worker is very unique and varied because the young people you support all have individual needs. Whilst this can be a diverse role, the key focus is always on supporting a person to lead a fulfilling and more independent life.

We are looking for someone who is resiliant, enthusiastic, creative, flexible and has a passion to make a difference in someone’s life. Every day will be different, and you will be instrumental in supporting young people to live independently, with dignity and guidance.

Job Specification

Education Support Officers (ESO) work within a classroom setting either on a 1-2-1 basis or with a small group of young adults.

Level 2 and 3 Teaching Assistant and Manual Handling qualifications are preferable for this role, along with experience of working with 16+ students.

As an ESO you’ll be expected to:

  • Provide support 1-2-1 or in groups within lessons
  • Act as a scribe in lessons
  • Provide personal care
  • Help students get around.

ESOs are needed to support individuals with a variety of different needs including:

  • Learning difficulties
  • Autism
  • Hearing and visual impairments
  • Social and behavioural difficulties.
