Job Description

New Directions are recruiting hardworking and motivated individuals for temporary School Caretaker positions in various Primary Schools across South Wales.

The nature of the roles is supply, working in long and short-term roles covering staff absences such as sickness. The working hours vary between schools, however School Caretakers must be flexible as they will be required to work split shifts, such as 7am – 11am and 2pm – 6pm. Caretakers are also required to work during school holidays, to complete deep cleans and large maintenance jobs whilst the school is empty.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a background working in building/maintenance/DIY/construction and will have an excellent knowledge of health and safety.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Key-holding
  • General security
  • Maintaining alarm systems
  • Maintenance and repairs
  • Basic cleaning duties and supervising cleaning staff
  • Painting and decorating
  • Organising external contractors for major work

This is a great opportunity to work with local primary schools and be responsible for the overall upkeep of the school premises.

Please note, all applicants must hold a Child-Only Enhanced DBS Registered with the Update Service, or be willing to pay for a new DBS at the cost of £44.

Job Description

Caretakers will be responsible for looking after the school site including the buildings and grounds.
The duties of a school caretaker include: general maintenance and minor repairs, liaising with contractors, managing heating and alarm systems, security opening and closing the school, basic cleaning, and key holding.
Caretakers must be honest, reliable and trustworthy. They must be able to work well on their own using their own initiative, as well as working well within a larger team.
Candidates will ideally have previous caretaking experience; however New Directions will consider candidates who have a background in maintenance, decorating, facilities or security. It is mandatory that caretakers have a clear DBS either registered with the Update Service or a New Directions DBS.
