Applicants must hold a higher level teaching assistant qualification or equivalent and have experience of working in a school setting. References will be requested when the registration process has begun. HLTAs are often requested by our schools to cover a variety of roles so applicants must be adaptable with a positive attitude.
You may be required to cover classes for PPA, courses or sickness for short periods of time. Our schools may also require you to take small groups of children for literacy/numeracy support and to improve learning standards in the schools. You will work with the teachers to establish a positive learning environment for all pupils and act as a role model for other learning support assistants in the school.
The HLTA role adds further support to those teaching in a classroom environment. The post is more senior than a Teaching Assistant, and comes with added responsibilities.
A HLTA may be required to teach classes on their own at times, or cover planned absences to allow teaching staff to plan and mark.
To become a HLTA you must have experience as a teaching assistant. You will also need the support of your school and senior staff.
