New Directions are currently seeking an experienced tutor (ideally Secondary trained/qualified) to work with 2-3 different pupils, on a one-to-one basis in the Merthyr area. The successful candidate will need to have a calm, but encouraging demeanour, and the ability to engage and create positive relationships with pupils who have varying additional leaning needs (ALN). These needs can range from mental health issues, to challenging and resistant behaviour.
The pupils who require the home tuition are not currently in school, and may need creative, individual learning plans to get them back on track. The school they should be attending can help support with the curriculum and materials.
Previous experience of home tuition would be greatly beneficial, but if you’re a qualified teacher with behaviour experience, and confident teaching core subjects up to GCSE standard then you would be considered for this role.
Tutors work on a 1-2-1 basis with students usually within the students’ home, covering a variety of subjects notably core subjects including Mathematics, English and Science.
Tutor sessions will be bespoke for each student depending on age and levels, and will normally last between 1 and 2 hours.
Tutors can cover all levels from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 4 however; Tutors will need to have experience of teaching core subjects such as English, Science, and Mathematics at the level they will be tutoring.
To be successful Tutors are required to be:
- Flexible with working hours
- Prepared to work with more than one student in a day
- Happy to travel between locations
- Focused on creating fun and interactive lessons for young people
