Job Description

New Directions are seeking to appoint an experienced Modern Foreign Language coach to work in primary schools in the Cardiff area. We require a dedicated, passionate MFL specialist, capable of maximising student potential and interest in the subject. The successful candidate should display a driven positive attitude, have strong behaviour management strategies, be a passionate, confident role model and be able to deliver lessons that engage the pupils, inspire them to learn a new language and let them experience a new culture.

The main languages taught by Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) Teachers within the program include French, German, Spanish and British Sign Language.

Job Specification

Working as a coach can be a very rewarding, you will help support schools enrich the experience for their pupils. In your area of specialism, you will have a role in assisting pupils to realise their potential through the provision of instruction, advice, and encouragement.

You will be responsible for planning, organising, and delivering an appropriate range of activities and programmes of your subject specialism, in line with the national curriculum.

Our curriculum enrichment programme will allow you to support schools, with covering full classes in various year groups, delivering these key subjects and allow the teachers to have their planning, preparation, and assessment time.

Subject Specialists: –

Physical Education –Delivering various sports in line with the expectations of the school.
Creative Arts – Delivering engaging lessons, to meet the needs of the school, linking to the curriculum for creative arts.
Outdoor Learning– Delivering lessons for children to learn through discovery and experimentation, engaging them in fun environmental and adventurous activities.
Languages – Delivering a foundation for learning further languages including British sign language.
Mental Health and Wellbeing – Delivering lessons to allow children to make connections between their emotional and physical experiences.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide a positive environment for pupils to develop their learning in.
  • Deliver lessons that cater for all student ability ranges.
  • Maintain discipline and have strong classroom management skills.
  • Meet the school requirements for the assessment and recording of pupils’ development.
  • Coordinate lessons and resources within a specific area of the curriculum, supporting the school in the delivery of this specialist area.
  • Understanding changes and developments in the structure of the curriculum.
  • Communicate effectively and appropriately with staff, pupils, and wider community.
  • Communicate with the school, providing flexibility and willingness to adapt to the needs of the school.

A coach will have:

  • Experience managing groups of children under the age of 11
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • A passion for your subject specialism
  • A relevant training/qualification in one of the specific subjects
  • Be registered or willing to register with the EWC
