We are currently recruiting for a motivated and experienced school caretaker, who is available to work on a relief basis in primary and secondary schools in Neath Port Talbot.
Relief caretakers are required to cover long and short term staff absences in various schools, therefore the ideal candidate must be flexible and reliable. Access to transport would also be beneficial, as caretakers may be required to work split shifts (6.00-10:00 and 14:00-18:00), to open up the school in the morning and return to lock up at the end of the day.
Responsibilities will include:
- Being the main key-holder for the school
- Securing the premises against vandalism and break-ins
- Maintenance and minor repairs
- Maintaining boiler and alarm systems
- Liaising with external contractors for major repair work
- Litter picking, bins and general cleaning duties
- Supervising cleaning staff
We are looking for candidates with some previous experience working as a school caretaker and a strong maintenance/building background.
This is an excellent opportunity to work in a variety of local schools and assist in the overall upkeep of the premises.
Please note, all applicants must hold a ‘Child Only’ Enhanced DBS registered with the Update Service, or be willing to pay for a new DBS.
Caretakers will be responsible for looking after the school site including the buildings and grounds.
The duties of a school caretaker include: general maintenance and minor repairs, liaising with contractors, managing heating and alarm systems, security opening and closing the school, basic cleaning, and key holding.
Caretakers must be honest, reliable and trustworthy. They must be able to work well on their own using their own initiative, as well as working well within a larger team.
Candidates will ideally have previous caretaking experience; however New Directions will consider candidates who have a background in maintenance, decorating, facilities or security. It is mandatory that caretakers have a clear DBS either registered with the Update Service or a New Directions DBS.
