New Directions are recruiting an experienced School Caretaker to work in a long-term, temporary position in a large primary school in Newport.
The position is due to start in January 2019, 37 hours per week, working split-shifts.
Previous school caretaker experience is preferred but not essential. Candidates that do not have this experience must demonstrate a strong maintenance background with transferable skills and an excellent awareness of health and safety.
This is an excellent opportunity to join the team at a local primary school and be responsible for the overall upkeep of the premises.
Job Specification
Caretakers are responsible for looking after a school site including the buildings and grounds.
The duties of a school Caretaker include:
General maintenance and minor repairs
Liaising with contractors
Managing heating and alarm systems
Security
Opening and closing the school
Basic cleaning
Key holding.
Caretakers must be honest, reliable and trustworthy. They must be able to work well on their own using their own initiative, as well as working within a larger team.
Candidates will ideally have previous caretaking experience; however New Directions will consider candidates who have a background in maintenance, decorating, facilities or security.
It’s mandatory that caretakers have a clear DBS either registered with the Update Service or a New Directions DBS.
In
order to register and be eligible to work for us candidates will need to;
Hold a ‘Child Only’ Enhanced DBS registered with the Update Service. If you do not hold this kind of DBS then you must be prepared to apply for one at the cost of £40.
Complete an accredited Child Safeguarding Level 1 course online; we will provide this during your registration.
Provide reference details for any work you have carried out in the last 3 years, gaps will need to be covered by a character reference.
