Job Description

New Directions are looking to appoint a hardworking and reliable School Caretaker, to work in a large Primary School in Newport. This is a long-term, temporary position which is due to start in the summer term.

The successful candidate must be flexible and reliable and should be available to work split shifts, 6am – 9:30am and 3pm – 6pm. As the main key-holder for the school, the caretaker will be responsible for opening and closing the premises, checking alarm systems and general security throughout the schools.

Further duties will include:

  • General maintenance & repairs
  • Litter picking & basic cleaning duties
  • Organising external contractors for major work
  • Ground maintenance
  • Painting and decorating

Applicants must be able to demonstrate a strong building/maintenance background and an excellent knowledge of health and safety.

Please note, all applicants must hold an Enhanced DBS Certificate Registered with the Update Service or be willing to be pay for a new DBS.

Job Description

Caretakers will be responsible for looking after the school site including the buildings and grounds.
The duties of a school caretaker include: general maintenance and minor repairs, liaising with contractors, managing heating and alarm systems, security opening and closing the school, basic cleaning, and key holding.
Caretakers must be honest, reliable and trustworthy. They must be able to work well on their own using their own initiative, as well as working well within a larger team.
Candidates will ideally have previous caretaking experience; however New Directions will consider candidates who have a background in maintenance, decorating, facilities or security. It is mandatory that caretakers have a clear DBS either registered with the Update Service or a New Directions DBS.
