Job Description

New Directions are recruiting a reliable and experienced maintenance person, to work as a School Caretaker in a Primary School in Lower RCT. This is a long-term temporary role which is due to start in September 2018.

The successful candidate will ideally have access to their own transport as they will be required to work split-shifts, 6:30 – 9:00 and 14:30 – 17:00, in order to open and lock up the school premises.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Key-Holding
  • Setting and maintaining alarm systems
  • General maintenance and repairs
  • Painting and decorating
  • Cleaning duties such as litter picking, emptying bins
  • Organising external contractors for major work

All applicants must have an excellent knowledge of health and safety and should be able to demonstrate previous building / maintenance and handy man experience.

Please note, all applicants must hold a Child-Only Enhanced DBS Certificate registered with the Update Service, or be willing to pay for a new DBS.

Job Description

Caretakers will be responsible for looking after the school site including the buildings and grounds.
The duties of a school caretaker include: general maintenance and minor repairs, liaising with contractors, managing heating and alarm systems, security opening and closing the school, basic cleaning, and key holding.
Caretakers must be honest, reliable and trustworthy. They must be able to work well on their own using their own initiative, as well as working well within a larger team.
Candidates will ideally have previous caretaking experience; however New Directions will consider candidates who have a background in maintenance, decorating, facilities or security. It is mandatory that caretakers have a clear DBS either registered with the Update Service or a New Directions DBS.
