Due to an increase in demand New Directions are looking to appoint a hardworking and reliable School Caretakers, to work on a relief basis in Primary and Secondary Schools in the Chester & Cheshire West area.
The positions are long and short-term temporary, covering staff absences such as sickness.
Due to the nature of relief work, all applicants must be flexible and reliable with access to their own transport to travel to different schools. Applicants must also be willing to work split shifts, as duties will include opening the school in the morning and returning to lock the premises at the end of the day (e.g. 6am – 10am and 3pm – 6pm).
The successful candidate will have a strong building/maintenance background, good DIY skills and an excellent knowledge of health, safety and hygiene.
Responsibilities will include:
- Being the main key-holder for the school
- Ensuing security of the premises
- Up-keep of heating, lighting and alarm systems
- General maintenance and repairs
- Painting and decorating
- Cleaning duties (litter picking, emptying bins)
- Ground maintenance
- Liaising with external contractors for major work
Supply staff development is a high priority for us as we help with free, modern training courses in line with what is expected and delivered for permanent school support staff in schools.
All applicants must hold a Child-Only Enhanced DBS Certificate registered with the Update Service, or be willing to pay for a new DBS.
Caretakers will be responsible for looking after the school site including the buildings and grounds.
The duties of a school caretaker include: general maintenance and minor repairs, liaising with contractors, managing heating and alarm systems, security opening and closing the school, basic cleaning, and key holding.
Caretakers must be honest, reliable and trustworthy. They must be able to work well on their own using their own initiative, as well as working well within a larger team.
Candidates will ideally have previous caretaking experience; however New Directions will consider candidates who have a background in maintenance, decorating, facilities or security. It is mandatory that caretakers have a clear DBS either registered with the Update Service or a New Directions DBS.
