New Directions are looking to recruit an energetic Midday Assistant to join our team to work on a relief basis to schools in the Wirral and Chester areas. The main focus of this role is to be a proactive member of a team to provide a safe and inclusive environment and to offer practical support during childrens’ lunch break.
The usual hours Midday Assistants are required to work is 11am-1pm, however this may vary depending on the school requirements.
As the role will involve working in schools, candidates must have or be willing to self-fund an Enhanced DBS certificate (Criminal Record Check).
Job Specification
School Lunchtime Supervisors are responsible for the safety of school children during lunchtime breaks.
Roles and responsibilities of a Midday Supervisor
The duties of a Midday Supervisor include supervising pupils in the dining area, playground and other school premises. They must also ensure pupils do not leave the school or go into areas that are out of bounds.
Midday Supervisor tasks will include:
Supervising pupils at mealtimes – encouraging children to eat healthily, helping infants to open packaging or cut up food, and providing some social and educational training, such as good table manners
Cleaning up spillages and possibly helping catering staff to clean tables and clear the dining area
Overseeing children in the playground or during wet play and monitoring the safety and suitability of activities
Supervising children using toilet facilities, checking they wash and dry their hands
Caring for the personal cleanliness of children
Maintaining order, cautioning children who misbehave and reporting unresolved problems to the Duty Teacher or Head Teacher
Making sure children who are ill or injured receive appropriate medical attention and reporting any serious accidents.

To be a Midday Supervisors, you should be:
Able to deal with any quarrels or fights
Comforting around upset children
Able to remain calm and deal with any emergencies
Vigilant at all times
