Job Description
New Directions are recruiting for an experienced School Caretaker to work with one of our Secondary Schools in the Cardiff Area.
The school in question requires an experienced Caretaker that can work on their own initiative, who is reliable, adaptable, hardworking and proactive.
You may be needed to carry out security procedures, both during and outside normal working hours.
Your role involves liaising with third parties/contractors regarding opening and closing arrangements during school closure. You will ensure all alarm systems are in good working order and report any problems to the relevant personnel. You will be responsible for the daily maintenance of the school grounds and building, minor maintenance repairs such as, Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical, Painting/Glazing, Cleaning and Health and Safety.

Caretakers will be responsible for looking after the school site including the buildings and grounds.
The duties of a school caretaker include: general maintenance and minor repairs, liaising with contractors, managing heating and alarm systems, security opening and closing the school, basic cleaning, and key holding.
Caretakers must be honest, reliable and trustworthy. They must be able to work well on their own using their own initiative, as well as working well within a larger team.
Candidates will ideally have previous caretaking experience; however New Directions will consider candidates who have a background in maintenance, decorating, facilities or security. It is mandatory that caretakers have a clear DBS either registered with the Update Service or a New Directions DBS.
