SEND Specialist Sports Coach

Full-Time
£450-£550 Weekly Pay (PAYE – No Umbrella Company)

New Directions Liverpool is seeking experienced Specialist Sports Coaches to support children with severe Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This role involves working with primary-aged students who exhibit particularly challenging behaviours, providing tailored support through physical education and sports activities.

The ideal candidate will have experience in delivering sports programmes in an educational setting and working with children with special educational needs, particularly in relation to severe behaviour management. This is a rewarding opportunity for individuals passionate about using sports to positively influence the development and well-being of young people facing significant challenges.

Responsibilities of the role included but are not limited to:

  • Have excellent communication skills.
  • Be able to build strong relationships with students and staff.
  • Be encouraging and supportive.
  • Have a positive attitude towards teaching and aiding children development.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of the student.

Although the role is based around education support, due to the children’s personal needs and behaviours they require consistent mentoring, motivating and advising, as well as some counselling, so their well-being can remain stable meaning they can achieve much more in their education and work towards an more independent future.

Behaviours displayed by the children can be challenging so applicants must be prepared to practice De-escalation and calming techniques, as well maintaining an empathetic approach and understanding behaviours stems from other problems. candidates from care, sports, psychology, criminology, sociology and youth work backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
