Job Description

New Directions Education are recruiting for a Sociology/ Criminology Teacher for a fantastic school in Newport to work on a full-time, long-term ongoing basis with an immediate start. There is also a strong possibility of the roles extending to the end of the academic year.

This is a well-established mainstream secondary school providing education for pupils aged between 11-18. The school is renowned for its high standards and continuous academic excellence. We require a flexible and enthusiastic teacher that is dedicated to improving standards and providing a safe and nurturing environment for learners.

You will have the ability to give pupils a good grounding in the subject of Sociological criminology by teaching them the practice of examining crime from a sociological point of view and how to see crime as an individual and social problem and believe that it cannot be properly understood without examining the surrounding social, political and economical context.

The right candidate should be able to provide a creative and exciting learning environment whereby pupils are motivated and encouraged to show ambition, to maximise their potential, and to embrace all aspects of school life to develop a wide-ranging skill set.

Job Requirements include:

  • A passion for raising student expectations and achievements
  • The ability to build strong working relationships with staff and pupils
  • The ability to remain up to date with educational developments and changes whilst undertaking the role
  • Eligible to work in the UK
  • In possession of a clear DBS with the update service and registered with the EWC

Job Specification

If your specialism is teaching biology, physics or chemistry and you’re looking for work in a school, we may have jobs to interest you, particularly if you are a newly qualified teacher (NQT) or looking for supply teaching work.

As a Science Teacher you’ll be expected to:

  • Teach all areas of your subject specialism
  • Organise the classroom and learning resources to create a positive teaching environment
  • Plan, prepare and teach lessons that cater for all student ability ranges
  • Motivate pupils with enthusiastic, imaginative presentation
  • Maintain discipline
  • Meet requirements for the assessment and recording of pupils’ development
  • Coordinate activities and resources within a specific area of the curriculum, supporting colleagues in the delivery of this specialist area
  • Stay up to date with changes and developments in the structure of the curriculum
  • Liaise with colleagues and working flexibly, particularly within smaller schools.
