Job Description

New Directions are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Speech and Language Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive school environment based in Huyton starting in September. This role involves working closely with pupils who have speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN), helping them to access learning and reach their full potential.

The successful candidate will support children on a one-to-one basis and in small groups, implementing targeted interventions under the guidance of a Speech and Language Therapist and school SENCO. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in pupils’ educational and personal development.

Job Specification

  • Experience working with children with SLCN or in a SEN setting.
  • Be couraging and supporting
  • Support pupils with speech, language, and communication needs across the school.
  • Whilst previous experience of working in a SEN environment would be desirable, candidates who possess the right motivation, personal qualities and levels of resilience are just as important.
  • Your work will be challenging and rewarding in equal measure and you will be working in a school where we maintain a strong safegaurding culture, where pupils are listened to, respected and involved in as many decisions as possible.
  • Experience of working with students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADHD, or other specific learning needs.

Responsibilities of the role included but are not limited to:

  • A relevant qualification in speech and language support (desirable but not essential).
  • A patient, empathetic, and flexible approach to supporting students with varying needs.
  • Be able to build strong relationships with students and staff.
  • Deliver tailored intervention programs and assist with personalized learning plans.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of the students
  • Support students with a range of SEND needs (including autism, dyslexia, ADHD, physical disabilities, and emotional needs) in their lessons, ensuring they have equal access to learning opportunities.
