Job Description

New Directions Education is working closely with a warm and supportive primary school in Upton who are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to work 1:1 with a child with additional needs, starting ASAP.

Location: Upton, Wirral
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Full-time, ongoing

About the Role:
The school is looking for a compassionate, patient and reliable Teaching Assistant who can provide consistent, tailored support to help the child thrive both academically and emotionally. You’ll be working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to put strategies in place and create a positive, nurturing experience for the child.

Your Responsibilities:
– Providing 1:1 support throughout the school day
– Assisting with learning tasks, communication and emotional regulation
– Helping implement personalised support plans
– Encouraging independence and confidence
– Working collaboratively with staff and parents

We’re Looking for Someone Who:
– Has experience supporting children with SEN (ASD, ADHD, speech and language, SEMH or similar)
– Is calm, encouraging and adaptable
– Can build strong, trusting relationships
– Communicates well with teachers, staff and families
– Is reliable and committed to supporting the child’s progress

Job Specification

Teaching, Learning or Classroom Assistants are now vital resources for teachers and are heavily relied upon in schools.

We specialise in recruiting Teaching Assistants (TA) who are qualified in the following;

  • NVQ Level 2 Teaching Assistant
  • NVQ Level 3 Teaching Assistant
  • Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
  • CACHE Level 3 in Childcare & Education
  • BTEC National Certificate in Childhood Studies (Nursery Nursing).

We’ll also consider experienced Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) who have previously held a job in a primary school or assisted a pupil in the role in a secondary school but do not hold any of the above qualifications.

As a teaching assistant you’ll be expected to:

  • Assist in the educational and social development of pupils under the direction and guidance of the head teacher, ALNCO and class teachers
  • Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Programmes (IEP) for students and help monitor their progress
  • Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities
  • Assist class teachers with maintaining student records
  • Support students with emotional or behavioural problems and help develop their social skills.
