Job Description

New Directions are currently looking to recruit inspiring, dedicated and passionate individuals to work with children with Additional Learning Needs in Secondary schools in and around the Swansea area. We are looking for teaching assistants who have previous experience of teaching pupils with additional learning needs. The classes are tailored towards pupils with a variety of needs. The schools seek a pool of reliable teaching assistants who would be able to provide continuity for the children.

Job Specification

We welcome applicants who:

  • Are registered with the Education Workforce Council (EWC);
  • Are passionate, dedicated and motivated to make a difference ;
  • Have previous experience of working with children on the Autistic Spectrum, with emotional and behaviour difficulties or additional learning needs;
  • Can confidently liaise with staff, pupils and parents;
  • Assist in the educational and social development of pupils under the direction and guidance of the head teacher, ALNCO and class teachers.
  • Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Programmes (IEP) for students and help monitor their progress.
  • Provide support to students with emotional or behavioural problems and help develop their social skills.

As a teaching assistant you’ll be expected to:

  • Assist in the educational and social development of pupils under the direction and guidance of the head teacher, ALNCO and class teachers
  • Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Programmes (IEP) for students and help monitor their progress
  • Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities
  • Assist class teachers with maintaining student records
  • Support students with emotional or behavioural problems and help develop their social skills.
