New Directions are currently recruiting for a Learning Support Assistant to work in schools in the Newport area. We are looking for candidates who have the capability to work with children with English as an additional language, specifically with the Arabic language.
You will be required to support curriculum, language and learning strategies for identified minority-ethnic pupils at risk of under-achievement across the South East Wales region of Newport, Torfaen, Caerphilly, Blaenau Gwent and Monmouthshire. This will include the below;
Support the development of a multi cultural ethos in school
Work to overcome potential language barriers between home and the school
Work under the instruction and guidance of teaching and or members of the Service/school leadership team.
Support individuals and groups of pupils enabling access to learning through first language support
Liaise with parents to help them to support their children’s’ learning.
Help newly arrived EAL (English as an additional language) pupils to adjust to the routines of school
Use the pupils’ heritage language and other strategies to support access to the National Curriculum

To work in an Additional Learning Needs (ALN) role you will need:
Ideally experience working in an ALN environment or from a care background
An excellent track record
