New Directions are looking for a Cover Supervisor to work within a Welsh Language Secondary School in Pontypridd and surrounding areas. As this role is in a Welsh Language School the ability to speak Welsh is essential.
The ideal candidate will also have excellent interpersonal and people
management skills as there will be a degree of behaviour management involved.
New Directions can offer online training in the role of Cover Supervisor
as well as Classroom management for the right candidate.
Candidates would be responsible for:
Undertaking whole class supervision in the absence of the class teacher
Applying the school’s behaviour management policy and report any difficulties to the class teacher
Setting homework previously prepared by the teacher
Provide additional support to teachers in classrooms, or to carry out other administrative tasks as required.
Working as a Cover Supervisor can be extremely rewarding but also very demanding. Schools may wish to employ staff for cover supervision but on occasions where they are not needed for cover, they might also be released to provide additional support to teachers in classrooms, or to carry out administrative tasks.
As a Cover Supervisor you will be expected to:
Undertake whole class supervision in the absence of the class teacher, setting work previously prepared by the teacher
Develop curricular knowledge as required by the school
Apply the school’s behaviour management policy and report any difficulties to the class teacher/head teacher
Set homework previously prepared by the teacher
Mark elements of class work and homework under the guidance of the class teacher
Undertake observations of the pupils and contribute to pupil records
Administer (and mark) class tests
Supervise the work of the teaching assistant
Abide by and work towards all the policies within the school e.g. behaviour management, Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities
Carry out the above duties in accordance with the Children’s Services Department’s Equal Opportunities Policy.
